2017 Creatin Contest Kit

The 2017 HBS Creatin Contest kit is here.  It's not in stock, however,  you can order it now. I really like the look of this one. The Craftsman Cabin features four full walls and removable roof. Fun, Fun, Fun...I am definitely gonna buy it, not entering the contest though. Can't wait to see how creative you guys get bashing this kit. Happy New Year to all!!!

Where is Everyone?

I have noticed a decline in Blog posts over the last year or so…Why? I know I am guilty of not posting often, mainly because I haven’t much to share.  I am still working on minis as time permits. I think I got my "Mo-Jo" back, I  have some new projects and will be sharing soon. I have discovered some great Miniature Groups via Facebook and Instagram.  I would like to share a miniaturist who I discovered late one night on YouTube. Her name is Laurie Heisler.  Her page is full of tutorials, templates, and Ah Ha moments. Check it out here Laurie Heisler YouTube Channel or Blog.  Really neat stuff there.  Some of the work that’s being done on this years’ HBS Creatin’ Contest is amazing.  You guys always blow my mind with your creativity and innovation.  Can’t wait to see the finish projects.  I have often wondered why I don’t see more miniaturists using Cork Board to make bricks. After sharing my work with a Facebook group in hopes of finding someone who has successfully used Cork Board as brick, I was referred to another miniaturist page Handmade Miniatures by Alma.  I was excited to see that it could be done and look so realistic. I still consider myself a novice in the world of miniatures.  Anyway, hope you don’t mind the shout outs of other miniaturist.  We should share, promote, and encourage each other.  Below are some pictures of my Cork Board bricks for the round structure of The Citadel by Lolly's. I attached the adhesive bricks to clear contact paper and added tacky glue for a firm hold. Then I randomly added bricks to look as though they were pushed out. I used Spackle as grout to fill the gaps. This sealed the bricks which was good to prevent the cork from crumbling. The last pic is the image a googled for reference. Painting is next.

Until next time…

Miniatures in Commerials

I love it when miniatures get real life exposure. This commercial is cute. And for those of us who has attempted to fit a miniature house in a vehicle and know the struggle, it an impressive feat for this Fiat.

Still trying to get back in the swing of things...its coming along.

Until next time...

Hello...Its me

How are you Mini friends doing? Yes, its been awhile. My life has changed in so many ways since  my last post. I lost my beautiful Grandmother in February. I was fortunate enough to spent time with her and hold her hand before she passed. I loved her dearly and have a lifetime of great memories, she will be missed. In January I took a much needed vacation via Cruise ship and one of the destinations was Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. There I visited a museum in St. George and guess what I found? Yep, Miniatures.  Not sure of the scale but they were pretty cool. Here are some pictures and sorry the quality is not that great. Hopefully I will have some updates on my own projects soon.

Until next time, enjoy.

Project wins and fails...

Hey Mini friends! It’s been some time since my last post. I regret to inform that I haven’t made much progress on HBS Contest Denise’s Cottage.  In fact, the work I had done is no more. I got fed up with ideas and scrapped the whole thing. I spent weeks staring at it with no inspiration. I do plan to complete it at some point for self-gratification.  Meanwhile, something wonderful happened recently that sort of became an excuse to slack off and eventually drop the project.  I have acquired my favorite of all dollhouses, Lolly’s Citadel.  Yes, I am ecstatic!  Needless to say ALL my attention has been on this house.  It came unfinished and missing some signature items but I will make it work.   After the holidays and my upcoming vacation, I plan to get to work on my miniatures. I can’t wait to share my progress.  Although, I haven't been working on my own projects, I have kept up with reading blogs. Can I just say that the HBS Creatin' Contest reveals are phenomenal? I can't wait to see the others.  Wishing you all well!

Here is my Citadel:

Things are coming along...

Sooo, How is everyone's summer coming along? I have had a busy summer and really looking forward to my upcoming beach vacation. I noticed that blog posts are at a all time low. Hopefully, its due to summer and vacations, I would hate to think some of you gave up blogging. I have seen some phenomenal work being done with the  2015 HBS Creatin Contest kit. I have started and stopped, and now started again. Here are a few updates on my progress:

I started by playing around with the pieces of this kit as if it was a puzzle. I thought why not keep the original structure just move the sliding door. My only problem, I wanted the ceiling raised higher. If you notice from my first brainstorming for this build, I wanted to add a dormer for the top center. That proved challenging.

I knew that I wouldn't change the floor plan, so I assembled it and glued it down.

Through my many internet searches I found these:

It gives me the space I need and high ceilings.

And this one has the dormer. Although it looks more like a slanted roof.
So I began cutting and joining the two kits together.

 Figuring out the interior layout.

Let's see what it looks like all assembled...

This is where I am now. Trying to figure out how to put a dormer on top.

I made those stairs using wooden blocks.

I decided that I did not want the whole top floor, so now its a loft. I wanted the ceiling beams to be visible from the bottom floor. And to be able to see the bottom floor from the second level.

I am obsessed with watching Tiny House shows. This is not quite a tiny house but I am building it with a tiny house concept in mind.
This is what I have in mind for the dormer. Honestly, I may scrap it altogether...

Until next time...
